The position is open within the Section for Eukaryotic Biotechnology (SEB), one of five research sections at the Department of Systems Biology. SEB is dedicated to the exploitation of biodiversity as a source of new compounds and, through understanding cell biology and physiology, use systems and synthetic biology to design advanced cell factories. The profile of the section comprises research groups with competences in mycology, molecular biology, metabolomics, bioinformatics and fermentation technology. The focus of the project is construction of a synthetic chromosome for filamentous fungi.

PhD scholarship in Fungal Molecular- and Synthetic Biology

Responsibilities and tasks

  • The PhD student will complete their project within the Eukaryotic Molecular Cell Biology Group and be part of the PhD school at Department of Systems Biology, DTU.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should have a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering.

Approval and Enrolment

  • The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. Assessment

In assessment of the applicants, the following will be taken into consideration:

  • You are required to hold a master’s degree in microbiology, biotechnology, genetic engineering or another related field
  • You must have a good command of English
  • Strong documentation for skills within molecular biology
  • Documentation for skills within microbiology, preferentially fungal microbiology
  • Our research group work as a team and documentation of collaborative skills via recommendation letters will be advantageous

The assessment of the applicants will be made by Professor Uffe Mortensen.

Salary and appointment terms

  • The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is 3 years.
  • The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus.
