PhD-positions (two positions)

  • At the University of Bergen, Department of Biomedicine, two temporary full-time PhD-positions (100%) are available for a period of four (4) years or max 4 months after completed the PhD-degree, if this is achieved within a shorter time than four years. The positions include 25 % duty work such as teaching, exam work or supervision, depending on the demands at the department.

The positions is part of the project The Obesity-Cancer Connection: Malignant Cell Exploitation of the Altered Metabolic Landscape of Obese Cancer Patients”, funded by the University of Bergen.

Project

  • The main objective of our research group is to determine how cancer cells exploit changes in the metabolic status of cancer patients. A special focus will be on employing unbiased, systematic research strategies that will build on global gene expression profiles from tumors of cancer patients. This is a fundamental cell biological question that potentially will lead to novel discoveries of the basic interactions between tumor cells and the host microenvironment. Qualifications and qualities

  • The successful applicant must hold a cand. med. or equivalent master’s degree in cell biology or bioinformatics. Personal skills will be emphasized, and potential experience from relevant research projects will be considered as positive. The candidate should be able to work independently and have a strong commitment and enthusiasm for research. The successful applicant must be fluent in oral and written English.

Organized research training (PhD program):

  • In a PhD-position at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry you will participate in an approved program for a PhD within the set time period. You must have admission to the organized research training (PhD program) at the Faculty in order to qualify in a PhD-position. The final plan for the completion of the organized research training must be approved by the Faculty within three months after you have taken up the position.

We can offer

  • The salary will be paid in accordance with level 50 (code 1017/L20.8) on the government salary scale (corresponding to NOK 429.700 per year). For applicants with a completed internship and applicants with at least one year of employment in a position as a dentist: level 52. Further increases in salary will be based on seniority in the position. Medical specialist start on wage level 58 (code 1017/LR20.15).
  • A good pension scheme in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The PhD-position:

  • PhD-positions are fixed term positions. You cannot be employed in a PhD- position for more than one fixed term period at the same institution, or had similar employment at an institution in the region.
  • If you have been previously employed in a recruitment position, this same period of engagement will be deducted from the total employment period.
  • The teaching is usually performed in Norwegian.
