Thermo Fisher Scientific: seeking an experienced and motivated bioinformatics scientist for developing cutting-edge applications based on Ion Torrent high-throughput sequencing technologies. The position offers an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated team at Carlsbad, CA, translating state-of-the-art sequencing data to research and clinical applications. Under supervision of a senior manager, the candidate is expected to focus on specific goals of real world impact. Strong communication skills, especially for presenting scientific results, keeping records and working collaboratively in a team are necessary.

Thermo Fisher Scientific "Connecting All of Science"

  • The candidate will divide efforts between improving the core technology of AmpliSeqTM and providing customized data analysis to support bench scientists. Key AmpliSeqTM responsibilities are supporting new product development and monitoring performance of existing panels. The bioinformatics scientist will apply sequence and structural methods to mitigate potential mechanisms for systematic sequencing bias. He/she will translate new product requirements into software prototypes and test in a fast-paced environment. Other data analysis tasks include tracking of sequencing quality metrics, variant calling diagnostics and genome annotations.
