Bone Biology Division

  • The major research focus of the Bone Biology Division is osteoporosis, which has been facilitated by the visionary Dubbo Osteoporosis Epidemiology Study. This study, now in its 23rd year, is a prospective study of individuals with osteoporosis in the city of Dubbo and represents the longest running and best characterised study in the bone field. Our research has focused upon understanding the genetics of osteoporosis, the development of novel approaches to predicting individuals who will undergo pathological fractures and to developing approaches to identifying those that will benefit from treatment. This program has been underpinned by basic research investigating critical regulators of skeletal homeostasis, including, the role of neuropeptides.
