Oomycete Bioinformatics Training Workshop
July 6-7, 2012
The bioinformatics workshop will be dedicated to presentations on structural genomics and functional genomics, use of the Gene Ontology, and resources and tools for annotation and analysis of oomycete genomic sequences. The workshop will include an introduction to an exciting new comparative genomics resource for oomycetes that has been developed in association with FungiDB.org. No registration fee.

Phytophthora parasitica Genome Annotation Jamboree
July 9-13, 2012
The Phytophthora parasitica Annotation Jamboree, held in association with the Broad Institute, will follow immediately on July 9-13, 2010. This will include presentations on the biology of P. parasitica, genomic resources available to date, tools for sequence annotation and analysis. Participants will then break into groups reflecting relevant subject areas for several days of manual annotation. No registration fee.

TRAVEL FELLOWSHIPS

Thanks to support from the USDA and NSF, funds of up to $1200 each are available to assist 20 researchers to attend the training workshop. Additional funds of up to $1800 each are available for 20 participants attending the Phytophthora parasitica Jamboree. Funds of up to $2250 are available for participants attending one of the first two workshops plus the jamboree. All award travel must be arranged by Virginia Tech. Applicants from any country are eligible, but air travel must be on a US airline irrespective of cost. Applications are particularly encouraged from students, postdocs and junior faculty, especially those who are minorities, or are from undergraduate institutions and/or are from EPSCoR states or are from overseas countries that do not have established research funding infrastructures. Preference will also be given to those attending both the workshop and the jamboree.
