Bioinformatics community

  • Bioinformatics.ca through its Canadian Bioinformatics Workshops (CBW) series began offering one and two week short courses in bioinformatics, genomics and proteomics in 1999, in response to an identified need for a skilled bioinformatics workforce in Canada. In partnership with the Canadian Genetics Diseases Network and Human Resources Development Canada, and under the scientific direction of Director, Francis Ouellette, the CBW series was established. This initial series continued on for eight years.

  • The Canadian Society for Systems Biology aims at supporting and developing initiatives that strengthen Systems Biology research in Canada. This portal is one of the tools that the Society is employing to achieve this goal.
  • hum-molgen is one of the world's largest Internet sources for the latest information in HUMan MOLecular GENetics (more than 8,800 subscribers and a 6 digit number of distinct Internet users). Our service provides the opportunity to communicate with scientists, physicians and other genetics professionals worldwide.   • The International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) serves over 3,000 members from more than 70 countries by addressing scientific policies, providing access to high quality publications, organizing meetings, and serving as a portal to information about training, education, employment and news from related fields.  The ISCB hosts annual meetings, including the ISMB, the world's longest running and largest bioinformatics conference (held jointly with the ECCB every other year in Europe). The ISCB also affiliates with several other significant meetings of our science, has two official journals of the highest impact factors in the Mathematical & Computational Biology category, and has affiliations in place with several other publications for the benefit of our members.
  • Canada's Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre has a primary mandate to develop and deploy genomics technologies in support of life sciences research, and in particular cancer research.
  • The Open Bioinformatics Foundation or O|B|F is a non-profit, volunteer-run group dedicated to promoting the practice and philosophy of Open Source software development and Open Science within the biological research community.

  • VanBUG (Vancouver Bioinformatics Users Group) is an association of researchers, other professionals and students in the B.C. Lower Mainland who have an interest in the field of bioinformatics.

  • (Association canadienne des professionnels en gestion de l'information sur la santé) represents more than 3,700 certified Health Information Management (HIM™ ) professionals from across Canada in addition to  1,300  affiliate, student and  retired members. HIM professionals are employed in: hospitals; in the community health and extended care sectors; government; health and education institutions; the private sector including insurance and pharmaceutical companies; technology vendors; and consulting firms.
