Two applications are considered from a highly motivated individual to join our laboratory as a PhD student with strong interest in the areas of systems biology/bioinformatics/computational biology at the University of Regina’s (UofR) Research and Innovation Centre. Our research activities are aimed to characterize the networks of physical (protein-protein) and functional (gene-gene) interactions, underlying major cellular processes in model organisms or humans for understanding the global molecular wiring of the cellular processes and identifying novel therapeutic targets as well as therapies for the treatment of human diseases. The individual will use the state-of-the-art biochemistry, genetics, and computational methodologies such as R and Bioconductor packages to generate and analyze high-throughput data set, including the development and implementation of new computer methods and algorithms to generate protein and functional interaction networks. The PhD candidate will perform high-quality research and will also benefit by working closely with the experimental and computational biology groups at the University of Toronto. The successful candidate will be eligible for a departmental stipend through teaching assistantships for pursuing the PhD program, and will devote time towards the fulfillment of departmental requirements as well as research objectives.
