The Department of Biological Sciences at The University of Alabama in Huntsville(UAH) seeks an innovative researcher in the field of genetics, genomics, and/or bioinformatics to be the Pei-Ling Chan Eminent Scholar. The position offers an exciting opportunity for joint research, educational projects, and collaborations with non-profit,government, and industrial partners located in Huntsville and the region, including the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and have credentials in research and teaching for appointment with tenure as a senior Associate Professor or Professor

The candidate will teach and mentor students in the undergraduate and graduate programs in the Department of Biological Sciences at UAH, including the Biotechnology Science and Engineering doctoral program, and will have an Adjunct Faculty Appointment at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology. Their research interests will complement some of the existing strengths in the Department, including ecological and evolutionary genetics and genomics, human epigenetics, and structural and synthetic biology. The successful candidate will have a record of and be currently successful in grantsmanship and in obtaining sustained external funding and have demonstrated success in supporting and graduating Ph.D. students.

UAH is also recognized in the field of biotechnology in part because of its close partnership with the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology , a 152-acre campus under the directorship of Dr. Rick Myers that comprises research-intensive, state-of-the-art facilities dedicated to genomics technology.HudsonAlpha’s’s nationally recognized genomic investigators have decades of experience in large-scale projects such as the Human Genome Project, the Cancer Genome Atlas, and the Encyclopedia of DNA Elements Project (ENCODE).
