About programme:

The MSc Bioinformatics programme equips you with the knowledge and skills for PhD training; there are many funded phd opportunities and research assistant positions within academia. With a wide range of applications, there is an increasing demand for bioinformatics skills across the biotechnology, life sciences and pharmaceutical sectors. The ability to manage, analyse, integrate and visualise “big data” is also applicable to fields including software development, data analytics and finance.

Course Structure

The programme combines taught modules with both individual and collaborative research projects. You will apply the skills and techniques from the course material in a practical setting as you contribute to state-of-the-art research activities. The modules include:
  • Genome Bioinformatics
  • Coding for Scientists
  • Data analysis and visualisation
  • Post-genomics Bioinformatics
  • Group bioinformatics software development project
  • Bioinformatics research project

MSc Bioinformatics Scholarships

The Faculty of Science and Engineering are offering £1,500 to every Home/EU student who has been accepted onto the Science and Engineering programme and obtained a UK First Class Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
In recognition of the important investment that overseas students are making in their education, Queen Mary is pleased to offer International Science and Engineering Excellence Awards for 2014 entry. These awards are for the value of either £2,000 or £5,000 per year and are designed to reward academic achievement and help attract the brightest and best students from overseas.

Admission Requirements

  • A minimum of an upper 2nd class BSc (Hons) degree, (or equivalent international qualification), in Biology or other relevant natural sciences subject. Applicants with relevant professional experience in science will also be considered.
